Whitney Young (Chicago) posted a 135-10 win over Kennedy (Chicago) on Tuesday night in the first round of the Chicago Public League Championship. High school girls basketball has produced plenty of cringey scores this season but this one tops the list.
According to social media reports, Whitney Young led 80-4 at halftime. The Dolphins (19-5) are a perennial powerhouse in Illinois with five Class 4A state championship game appearances and three titles since 2008.
Whitney Young was the city tournament's No. 1 seed while Kennedy – which entered with a respectable 9-10 record – was the 32nd seed.
Incredibly, the 135-point total doesn't even crack the top five for most in a game at the Chicago school. Whitney Young apparently scored in bunches during the 1980s and early 1990s, posting single-game totals of 177 in 1990, 170 in 1986, 167 in 1985, 163 in 1986 and 142 in 1984 according to the
NFHS Record Book.
Expect a firestorm of attention around the 125-point victory in the coming days. This story will be updated as additional details emerge.
