Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Clover

Clover waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They wrapped up 2024 with a 56-39 win over the Cross Creek Razorbacks. Given the Blue Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 17th in South Carolina, while the Razorbacks are ranked 208th in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Clover got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Olivia Lewter out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Samara Lucas, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Clover smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Despite the defeat, Cross Creek had strong showings from Jerniyah Yomans, who posted eight points and five rebounds, and Destiny Clark, who earned 13 points and four steals. Yomans has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Nazyiah Parker, who put up seven points.

Clover's record now sits at 9-2. As for Cross Creek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Clover didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-30 win against Chapin on the 30th. As for Cross Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 53-34 victory against Mid-Carolina on the 30th.
