Georgetown is 1-9 against Williamsburg since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The G-Men will square off against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Georgetown took a 13-run defeat the last time they faced off against Clermont Northeastern, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The G-Men had just enough and edged out the Rockets 9-7. The game was the first time the G-Men have beaten the Rockets on their field since May 5, 2021.
Georgetown got a massive performance out of Carolyn Edmisten, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Makenna McElroy also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Williamsburg had no problem doing just that on Monday. They never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Gracie Graves and Alyssa Vearil made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Graves pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Vearil struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Graves has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Graves went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Vearil went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Julia Johnson was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. MaKenzie Shoemake was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Williamsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .735. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Williamsburg pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Georgetown, their record is now 4-13.
Georgetown suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Williamsburg when the teams last played on Wednesday. Can the G-Men avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
