5A Region III District 17 recap Oct. 16, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Langham Creek, who took down 179th ranked Cypress Creek, 38-26.
The Lobos were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 5A Region III District 17. Langham Creek defeated the Cougars 38-26 earlier in the week.
Mason Roberts and Mason Roberts gave Cy-Woods a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Roberts threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns, while Roberts ran for 58 yards. Teammate Trent Holmes added to the ground attack by rushing for 27 yards.
Robert Sylvester was the best wideout in the league this week as Cypress Lakes fell to Cypress Ranch. Sylvester racked up eight receptions for 77 yards. Marlon Battle helped Cypress Lakes' passing attack out by catching two balls for 13 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Devontre Barlow of Jersey Village is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1219. He has also thrown nine touchdowns. On the ground, the Spartans' Romeo Williams has rushed for 547 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Sylvester. The Cypress Lakes star has 35 catches for 555 yards.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when the Wildcats and the Mustangs meet this week. Cy-Woods features well-regarded senior Deoundrei Davis while Cypress Ranch has Keith Ford, a sought after senior.
A big matchup in 5A Region III District 17 this week will be when Todd Thompson's team takes on the Falcons. At the moment, the Lobos are in second, while Jersey Village is in fifth.
Gene Johnson's team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cypress Lakes, 52-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Mustangs.
