The Cedar Vale/Dexter Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Conway Springs Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Cedar Vale/Dexter will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
On Thursday, Cedar Vale/Dexter beat Uniontown 4-1.
Zoe Davidson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Davidson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madelyn Lampson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Cedar Vale/Dexter hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Conway Springs). They put the hurt on Belle Plaine with a sharp 25-5 victory on Monday. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.
Like Cedar Vale/Dexter, Conway Springs also got a great game from a two-way player: Joslin Bartelson. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Bartelson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Delaney Jones was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Raylee Chitwood, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Cedar Vale/Dexter's win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Conway Springs, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cedar Vale/Dexter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .462. However, it's not like Conway Springs struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cedar Vale/Dexter took their victory against Conway Springs in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
