The St. Paul Indians will head out on the road to square off against the Iola Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Paul comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
St. Paul suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 60-34 walloping at the hands of Northeast. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat St. Paul has suffered against Northeast since January 30, 2015.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 73-46, which was the final score in Iola's tilt against Wellsville on Friday. While losing is never fun, Iola can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Wellsville is ranked 35th).
Cortland Carson put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 25 points along with five rebounds. Grady Dougherty was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds.
St. Paul's loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.3 points per game. As for Iola, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
St. Paul was dealt a bruising 71-23 defeat at the hands of Iola in their previous meeting back in January of 2021. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point St. Paul was down 41-12.
