The Evergreen Cougars fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Bear Creek Bears on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bears by a score of 54-51. Evergreen has not had much luck with Bear Creek recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lukas McCanna, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. McCanna has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Yager, who scored 18 points.
Even though they lost, Evergreen were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Evergreen's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Bear Creek, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evergreen will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Standley Lake at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Bear Creek will be home for the holidays to greet Gateway at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Gateway focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 39 on Saturday.
