After flying high against Coahulla Creek last Thursday, Northwest Whitfield came back down to earth. The Bruins fell 21-13 to the North Murray Mountaineers on Friday. Despite the loss, Northwest Whitfield still got an impressive performance from Gavin Nuckolls, who threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 74 yards on only nine carries. A healthy portion of Nuckolls' aerial production (81 yards to be exact) went to Kade Mitchell, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Hudson Hulett had an outrageously good game for North Murray as he rushed for 115 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 121 yards and one touchdown on perfect 10-for-10 passing.
Northwest Whitfield's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for North Murray, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwest Whitfield will square off against Dalton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. After each having a week off, North Murray and Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
