Gray's Creek hasn't had much luck against Cape Fear recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Gray's Creek will face off against Cape Fear at 7:00 p.m. Gray's Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Gray's Creek got the win against Jack Britt by a conclusive 8-1. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Mason Barnes and Davis Reed made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Barnes tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Reed struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Barnes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Barnes got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI, while Reed got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gunner Sterling was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Cape Fear had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers a 5-0 shutout.
Evan Bunce and Landon Underwood did most of the damage at the plate: Bunce went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, while Underwood scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Those doubles were Bunce's first of the season.
Cape Fear pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Gray's Creek, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Gray's Creek has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Cape Fear struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
