Jamestown hasn't had much luck against Warhill recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will host the Lions at 6:00 p.m. Jamestown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Jamestown turned things around against Lafayette on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Rams.
Grace Hughes made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Cramer was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Zoe Mayes, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Warhill waltzed into their matchup last Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Rams as they made off with a 13-1 victory. Considering the Lions have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Jamestown, Warhill also got a great game from a two-way player: Skyler Wilson. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Wilson was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Warhill let Ella White and Payton Auerbach - GMU run wild. White got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI, while Auerbach - GMU went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs White has posted since back in March. Annabelle Hall was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Warhill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in four consecutive games.
Warhill's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Jamestown, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jamestown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Warhill struggles in that department as they've averaged .430. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jamestown couldn't quite finish off Warhill in their previous meeting back in April and fell 3-1. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
