Kohelet Yeshiva waltzed into their contest Thursday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mercy Career & Technical and snuck past 55-52. Kohelet Yeshiva's win was all the more impressive since Mercy Career & Technical was averaging only 26.8 points allowed on the season.
Kohelet Yeshiva's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daniel Benjamini led the charge by scoring 13 points. The game was Benjamini's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Asher Kahlon, who scored 13 points.
When it comes to explaining why Mercy Career & Technical lost, one person who can't be blamed is Taji Stewart. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Malachi Green, who scored seven points.
Kohelet Yeshiva pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for Mercy Career & Technical, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-1.
Kohelet Yeshiva and Holy Cross will face off on December 27, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Holy Cross focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday. Mercy Career & Technical will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Kimberton Waldorf at 4:00 p.m. on January 4th.
