After each having a week off, the Platt Panthers and the Maloney Spartans will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 10:30 a.m. on November 23rd. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a six-game winning streak alive.
Platt can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 42-14 victory over Edwin O. Smith at home. Platt pushed the score to 35-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Edwin O. Smith had little chance of recovering from.
Joel Rey continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 162 yards and a touchdown. Rey hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games. Zackery Baker also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Platt's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Jayden Vega was especially locked on to Edwin O. Smith's QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, Maloney put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Conard at home to the tune of 38-7. Given Maloney's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Conard is ranked 108th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Maloney's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ethan Nedinsky, who threw for 200 yards and five touchdowns. Jesus Martell was another key contributor, picking up 94 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Platt's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.4 points per game. As for Maloney, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Platt suffered a grim 44-21 defeat to Maloney when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Platt, Kyle Valentine (who threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
