The China Spring Cougars will square off against the Calallen Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with China Spring sitting on 25 straight victories and Calallen on six.
China Spring is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Lumberton get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 21 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jackson Fetters was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Jacob Klement was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Carson Garrett also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
China Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Calallen had just enough and edged out Tuloso-Midway 1-0 on Friday. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Wildcats have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Like China Spring, Calallen also got a great game from a two-way player: Drayton Mitchell. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mitchell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Calallen got a great performance from Collier Carroll as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over nine innings pitched.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Drayson Gamez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
China Spring's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 35-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Calallen, their record now sits at 32-2.
China Spring suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Calallen in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
