Baseball Recap: Stearns' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Stearns never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Penquis Valley on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over the Patriots. Considering the Minutemen have won four matches by more than ten runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Tyler Morris and Owen Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Morris pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wilson pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Morris went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Wilson went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base was Morris' first of the season.

In other batting news, Stearns got a massive performance out of Lucas Pelkey, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Cohen Raymond, who went 1-for-2 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Stearns always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Penquis Valley only posted an OBP of .118.

The victory snapped Stearns' losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-5 record. As for Penquis Valley, they are on a 24-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Stearns didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-2 defeat against Lee Academy on the 22nd. As for Penquis Valley, they have also already played their next contest, a 15-5 loss against Maine Central Institute on the 27th.
