Baseball Recap: Elko Falls Short of Fernley in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Elko can now relate to. They lost 18-4 to the Fernley Vaqueros on Friday. The Indians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vaqueros earlier this season, when they won 9-1.

Elko saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Toren Duke, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Duke is becoming a predictor of the Indians' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 11-16 when he doesn't). Another was Travis Monett, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Elko now has a losing record of 16-17. As for Fernley, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-16-1 record this season.

Elko does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fernley, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 10-6 loss against Truckee on the 10th.
