Even though the Pacific Ridge Firebird scored an imposing 64 points on Wednesday, the El Capitan Vaqueros still came out on top. El Capitan had just enough and edged Pacific Ridge out 67-64. Given El Capitan's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Pacific Ridge is ranked 431st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
El Capitan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jason Wilson led the charge by scoring 18 points along with 4 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wilson has scored at least 25% of El Capitan's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chance LaChappa, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds.
El Capitan's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Pacific Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Capitan will stay at home for another game and welcome Preuss UCSD at 7:00 p.m. on December 1st. Preuss UCSD is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Pacific Ridge, they will be playing at home against Santana at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
