Softball Recap: Diamond Ranch Gets the Win

While Diamond Ranch didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They skirted past the Ontario Jaguars 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since April 17, 2024.

Izel Avalos made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Avalos was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played.

In other batting news, Elena Rodriguez and Olivia Jauregui did most of the damage at the plate: Rodriguez got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI, while Jauregui got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Jauregui is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubree Quintero, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Diamond Ranch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.

Diamond Ranch's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Ontario, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Diamond Ranch Panthers challenge Chaffey Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ontario, they will host Montclair at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Ontario is facing Montclair at the right time seeing as Montclair is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
