Softball Recap: Talawanda Drops Highest Score of Season Against Northwest

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Talawanda). They never let the Northwest Knights get on the board and left with a 28-0 win on Monday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 14, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Kylie Cobb and Quinn Frieden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Cobb struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Frieden pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cobb has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Cobb went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Frieden went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most doubles Cobb has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Talawanda let Grace Richardson and Audrey Hilbert run wild. Richardson went 3-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and one triple, while Hilbert got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those five runs gave Hilbert a new career-high. Paisley Kerby was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.

Talawanda always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .766. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Talawanda's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Northwest, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Talawanda wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-8 win against Waynesville on the 22nd. As for Northwest, they have also already played their next contest, a 23-14 defeat against Colerain on the 22nd.
