The Columbia Wildcats are on the road again on Friday and play against the Poplarville Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. Columbia knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Poplarville likes a good challenge.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Columbia walked away with it. They blew past Pass Christian 42-7 on the road. The result was nothing new for Columbia, who have now won nine matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, Poplarville's and Lawrence County's match on Friday was close at halftime, but Poplarville turned on the heat in the second half with 21 points. Poplarville blew past Lawrence County 44-20. The victory was familiar territory for Poplarville who now have three in a row.
It was another big night for Tylan Keys, who rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Keys is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last eight games he's played. Lane Amacker also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Columbia to 13-0 and Poplarville to 10-3.
Columbia couldn't quite finish off Poplarville in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 and fell 20-18. Can Columbia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
