The Jeff Davis Yellowjackets lost against the Cook Hornets back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Jeff Davis took a 59-45 bruising from Cook. Jeff Davis has struggled against Cook recently, as their match on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Jeff Davis saw an underclassman step up: J.j Benjamin scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Marigus Sampson, who scored six points.
Cook had a senior duo take command as Punch Byron scored 15 points and Ny'shaun Wallace scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chavious Hobbs, who scored eight points.
Jeff Davis' defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Cook, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jeff Davis will take on Treutlen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Treutlen knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 15 games -- so hopefully Jeff Davis likes a good challenge. As for Cook, Cook and Tift County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
