Makaree Chapman was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Clear Fork and Shelby meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Colts blew past the Whippets 12-2. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Katrina Rogers and Hailly Thrush did most of the damage at the plate: Rogers went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Thrush went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Thrush has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kylie Ludwig, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Lexington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Clear Fork, their victory bumped their record up to 16-10.
Clear Fork's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Lexington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Clear Fork, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 strikeouts. Will Lexington keep running through batters, or will the Colts buck the trend?
Lexington was able to grind out a solid win over Clear Fork when the teams last played on May 2nd, winning 6-2. Will the Minutemen repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
