The Kankakee Valley Kougars will head out on the road to face off against the Boone Grove Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kankakee Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Kankakee Valley after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Highland by a score of 9-8.
Kankakee Valley saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallorie Rose, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Rose has hit this season. Julia Mahmet was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Boone Grove). They walked away with a 9-5 win over Westville on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Wolves sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Jordyn Botma was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Botma was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Zoey Powell was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mercedes Szakacs, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Boone Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Kankakee Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Boone Grove, their record is now 5-7.
Boone Grove's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Kankakee Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. It's a different story for Boone Grove, though, as they've only averaged .219. Will they be able to contain Kankakee Valley's hitters?
Kankakee Valley suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Boone Grove in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Kougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
