Softball Recap: Clever Has No Trouble Against Hollister

Clever won the last time they faced Hollister and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Blue Jays put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 17-2 victory. The Blue Jays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Ava Mittag made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Clever got a massive performance out of Izabel Hudak, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Mirandah Branson was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.

Clever hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.

Clever is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Hollister, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Clever is set to face off against their familiar foe Spokane at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Hollister will take on rival Strafford at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
