After a string of three wins, the St. John's Islanders's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Military Magnet Academy at home and fell 107-20. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points St. John's has scored all season.
Despite the loss, St. John's saw an underclassman step up: Daeshia Buford scored 13 points along with five steals. Buford is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. John's struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Military Magnet Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was DaNariyah Williams, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sabri Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds.
St. John's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Military Magnet Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
St. John's will head out on the road to square off against Cross at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Cross will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Military Magnet Academy will take on Baptist Hill at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Baptist Hill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 231st, while Military Magnet Academy is ranked 29th).
