Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Foothill walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Red Bluff Spartans on Friday as they made off with a 7-0 victory. Considering the Cougars have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Elisea Wiegand made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Taylor Bates was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Malia Webb was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Foothill is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Coming up, Foothill is taking a road trip to face off against Las Plumas at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. Red Bluff does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
