Kelly Morrissey made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Brianna Dobnak was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Serra Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Sewickley Academy got the win against Bishop Canevin on Monday by a conclusive 10-0. Considering Sewickley Academy has won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Serra Catholic, Sewickley Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Charlotte Andrews (2028). She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Andrews (2028) was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sanaa Grant (2026), who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Gabby Edmunds (2028), who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Sewickley Academy's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Serra Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Serra Catholic has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Sewickley Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
