The Southern Alamance Patriots will face off against the Middle Creek Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Southern Alamance comes in on five and Middle Creek on three.
Southern Alamance is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They took down J.H. Rose 55-36. The Patriots pushed the score to 45-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rampants cut but never quite recovered from.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Sincere Thompson and Nysean ?Ny? Davis. Thompson had a great game and rushed for 228 yards and three scores while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Meanwhile, ?Ny? Davis was balling out in the loss, rushing for 71 yards and one TD on only nine carries, while also catching one touchdown.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Southern Alamance, adding 19 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jayden Brown, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Middle Creek humbled West Brunswick with a 52-20 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven games by 23 points or more so far this season.
Southern Alamance better keep an eye on Lex Sevilla. He was instrumental in Middle Creek's win, throwing for 186 yards and one touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 87 yards on only eight carries. Those 87 rushing yards gave Sevilla a new career-high. Ezra Jobe was another key player, rushing for 41 yards and three scores.
Middle Creek's run defense was locked in: West Brunswick could only muster 3.2 yards per carry. While eight picked up at least one total tackle, Jobe stood above the rest. He rushed for 41 yards and three TDs. Middle Creek's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.99 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 5.63 on average over their last five games.
Middle Creek's defense didn't let Josiah Borton, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as six different players picked up one apiece.
Southern Alamance's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Middle Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Southern Alamance has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 290.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Middle Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 184.2 rushing yards.
