The Salem Quakers will be playing at home against the Boardman Spartans at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday. Salem will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 300th, while Boardman is ranked 54th).
Salem fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 53-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. Salem has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, a fact Boardman proved on Monday. They took down John F. Kennedy Catholic 62-47. With that win, Boardman brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.
Boardman's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mary catherine Werth led the charge by scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. It was the first time this season that Werth scored 15 or more points. Sarah Bero was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Salem has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Boardman, they pushed their record up to 16-5 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Salem strolled past Boardman in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a score of 43-28. Will Salem repeat their success, or does Boardman have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
