Central (Fresno, Calif.) received a huge boost from its defense against Tulare Union (Tulare, Calif.), as the unit scored 12 in defeating Tulare Union (Tulare, Calif.), 55-15.
After taking the lead on a
Nick Wilson touchdown run in the second quarter, the Grizzlies led 20-8 at the half.
Central expanded its lead to 47 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS scored five times in the third, including once on a Wilson touchdown run.
A 35-point third quarter helped the Fresno school secure the big victory. The Grizzlies scored on a touchdown run by Wilson, a
Michiah Quick touchdown run, a defensive touchdown, a defensive touchdown and a
Eric Jimenez touchdown pass to
Louis Norris in the quarter.
Quick was the top performer for Central. The junior wide receiver ran for one touchdown.
Romello Harris made a difference for the Redskins. The freshman wide receiver ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 15 touchdowns on the season.
Led by
Hatari Byrd, CHS went into the matchup giving up only 14.9 points per game. The 15 points that Tulare Union ended with were well below its average of 36.6 coming into the game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Tulare Union, which notched a 54-21 victory over Tulare Western in its previous outing. With the win the Grizzlies extended their winning streak to three games. The loss snapped TU's 2-game winning streak.
Next week, Central (9-2) will take on Clovis West in a Tri-River game. The Golden Eagles have put together a 2-8 record on the year so far.
