Pleasant Grove is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 21-16 to Payson on Thursday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (12), the Vikings still had to take the loss.
Allyson Young was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Pawelek, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Spanish Fork got themselves on the board against Mountain View on Friday, but Mountain View never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Bruins with a sharp 17-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Dons in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now won five in a row.
Anaca Olsen looked comfortable as she struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lia Higginson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Taylani Reid was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Spanish Fork was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .652. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Spanish Fork's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Pleasant Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pleasant Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Spanish Fork struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
