The Girard Indians will challenge the Beaver Local Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Girard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Girard took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over LaBrae. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Indians as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Brooklyn Broll spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Quinn Wilster was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Kyra Bell was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Beaver Local got the win against Bellaire on Wednesday by a conclusive 12-2. The Beavers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.
Ciara Call made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Call was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 games.
In other batting news, Beaver Local got a massive performance out of Tatum Duncan, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ally Wright, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Beaver Local always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bellaire only posted an OBP of .348.
Beaver Local is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Girard, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Girard has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .468. However, it's not like Beaver Local struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
