Griggsville-Perry hasn't had much luck against Carrollton recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tornadoes will be playing at home against the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Griggsville-Perry will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Brown County, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tornadoes came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 10-7 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tornadoes.
Meanwhile, Carrollton put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Highland with a sharp 15-3 win. Considering the Hawks have won 16 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Lauren Flowers made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Brookelyn Eilerman was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 14 games. Another player making a difference was Hayden McMurtrie, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Carrollton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in 21 consecutive contests.
Carrollton pushed their record up to 22-0 with the victory, which was their 29th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Griggsville-Perry, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.
