The Lakewood Cougars pushed their score all the way to 57 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 66-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oak Harbor. Lakewood has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Lakewood saw an underclassman step up: Leiana Riveira scored 19 points along with two steals. Riveira hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Frankee Powers, who scored seven points along with eight assists.
Lakewood has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Oak Harbor, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakewood won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Squalicum at 7:15 p.m. on January 25th. Squalicum is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games. As for Oak Harbor, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Meridian at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Meridian is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
