West Haven extended the longest winning streak in Southern Connecticut Division I - East this week by beating Hand, 46-35. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Wilbur Cross fell to Notre Dame 56-28 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jaylin Fuller was a bright spot for the Governors, as he ran for 201 yards in the defeat.
The Green Knights' dynamic duo of Christian Lupoli and Drew Arciuolo proved tough for Wilbur Cross to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lupoli threw for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns and Arciuolo had 143 yards receiving. Nico Ragaini helped Notre Dame's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 27 yards.
Nick van Dell provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Tigers lost to West Haven. He completed 20 passes for 247 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 67 yards. Van Dell's key target this week was Josh DeMartino, who caught 6 passes for 61 yards.
Hand's van Dell and Tom Wilson led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback van Dell has thrown for 1,785 yards this season, while Wilson has 41 catches for 619 yards. John Acquavita's team's Stevie Swinson leads the league in rushing yards with 1,263.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Steven Filippone's team's Wilson goes up against Notre Dame's Arciuolo.
Next week's game between the Tigers and Tom Marcucci's team will feature an aerial matchup as van Dell tests his arm against Arciuolo's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Hand takes on the Green Knights. The Tigers are in second place, while Notre Dame is in third place.
The Green Knights led Southern Connecticut Division I - East in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on the Governors. Lupoli ran for 30 yards in the win.
