The Maranatha Minutemen have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 24 points or more this season. They really took it to Madison for the full four quarters, racking up a 51-23 victory on the road. 51 seems to be a good number for Maranatha as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Leading Maranatha to victory were Chris Smith and Trevor Cohen. Smith scored eight points along with six assists and six steals, while Cohen scored 14 points along with three steals. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for him. Zain Mahmood was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Madison's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Caleb Gleason, who scored eight points, and Eli Stevens who scored 12 points. The match was Stevens' fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Madison struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
The victory was the fourth in a row for Maranatha, bringing their record for this year to 7-3. As for Madison, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Maranatha is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Alemany at 4:00 p.m. on December 26th. Alemany is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. Madison and Chaparral will face off at 11:00 a.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
