Given Somerset College Prep Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while the Pirates are ranked 505th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins but they left with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 23-21 victory over John Carroll Catholic.
Cardinal Newman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grace George, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Kent, who scored five points along with seven blocks and six rebounds.
Somerset College Prep Academy's victory bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Cardinal Newman, they pushed their record up to 8-11 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Somerset College Prep Academy against the Crusaders when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 80-20 win. With Somerset College Prep Academy ahead 48-10 at the half, the game was all but over already.
