The McGavock Raiders were the 79-74 winner over the LEAD Academy Panthers when they last played one another back in February of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. McGavock suffered a rough 67-46 defeat at the hands of LEAD Academy on Tuesday. McGavock's loss continues a unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
LEAD Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darnell Seay, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Petway, who scored 13 points along with six assists and three steals.
McGavock has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for LEAD Academy, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
McGavock will look to defend their home court on Friday against Smyrna at 7:30 p.m. Smyrna is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for LEAD Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Marshall County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Marshall County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Friday.
