Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Servite Friars walked away with it. Their defense stepped up to hand the Cowboys a 5-0 shutout on Friday. Given Servite's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Cajon is ranked 89th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Servite hit Cajon with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from
Esteban Abarca (2),
Justin Cuevas (2), and
Nicholas Nodarse.
Servite pushed their record up to 15-6-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored nine goals over those three matches. As for Cajon, their loss dropped their record down to 15-4-5.
Servite will square off against Canyon at TBD on Tuesday. Canyon will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Servite surely won't give up without a fight. Cajon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
