Rancho Bernardo is a perfect 10-0 against Mt. Carmel since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Rancho Bernardo Broncos will be taking part in a tournament against the Mt. Carmel Sundevils at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Rancho Bernardo 2.2, Mt. Carmel 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Rancho Bernardo's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They put the hurt on Mission Viejo with a sharp 6-0 win.
Rancho Bernardo got a great performance from Christopher Bayne as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Brady Strachan was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Owen Glick was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel came into Wednesday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They skirted past Maranatha Christian 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Sundevils have posted since April 29, 2024.
Maranatha Christian's batters probably weren't too happy with Jack Grassa, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (he gave up two walks).
At the plate, Mt. Carmel's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kelle Leuck, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Chase Mendoza also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Rancho Bernardo's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Mt. Carmel, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Mt. Carmel's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rancho Bernardo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. It's a different story for Mt. Carmel, though, as they've only averaged .211. Will they be able to contain Rancho Bernardo's hitters?
Everything went Rancho Bernardo's way against Mt. Carmel in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as Rancho Bernardo made off with an 11-3 victory. Does Rancho Bernardo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mt. Carmel turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
