The Westminster Christian Warriors will square off against the Yorkville Christian Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Westminster Christian came out on top against Harvard on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Hornets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted since April 9th.
Ethan Nagler was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brian Powers, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Yorkville Christian entered their tilt with West Chicago on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 18-17 W against the Wildcats.
Reese Seng made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off six hits. Seng was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Yorkville Christian let Danny Paige and Benny Raddatz run wild. Paige got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and one double, while Raddatz got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three runs gave Raddatz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Phoenix Oliver, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.
Yorkville Christian lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Westminster Christian's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-11. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Yorkville Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.
Westminster Christian couldn't quite finish off Yorkville Christian when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 12-10. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
