Atkinson County has enjoyed a seven-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Charlton County Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Saturday, Atkinson County was the victim of a rough 74-53 loss at the hands of the Panthers. While losing is never fun, Atkinson County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 448th, while the Panthers are ranked 188th).
Meanwhile, Charlton County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 69-28 loss at the hands of McIntosh County Academy. Charlton County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-14.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Imod Hamilton, who scored five points. Ja'mari Hamilton was another key contributor, scoring three points along with two steals.
Charlton County struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as McIntosh County Academy racked up 17 assists.
Atkinson County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Charlton County, they dropped their record down to 12-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Atkinson County came up short against the Indians in their previous meeting back in January, falling 63-55. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hamilton, who scored 26 points along with four steals.
