Picayune and Ocean Springs are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Picayune Maroon Tide will host the Ocean Springs Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Picayune's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last six contests.
If Picayune beats Ocean Springs with ten runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Picayune came out on top against Poplarville by a score of 10-7 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Maroon Tide in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won three in a row.
Kendall Blevins tossed a big game, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Parker Helton, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cooper Moreaux, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Ocean Springs waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Bearcats.
AJ Arguello was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Cannon Hensarling was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Picayune's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Ocean Springs, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Picayune came up short against Ocean Springs in their previous meeting back in February of 2021, falling 5-0. Can Picayune avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
