Make it six blowout wins for the Polk County Wolverines this season. They blew past Burns, posting a 59-24 win at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Polk County has posted yet this season.
Polk County found their leader in underclassman Bailey Staton, who scored 21 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Staton continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Bradley, who scored 17 points.
Burns' loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Maggie Earl and Taviana Woods. Earl scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and eight steals, while Woods scored two points along with six steals. Earl hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Burns struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Polk County racked up 16 assists.
The victory makes it two in a row for Polk County and bumps their season record up to 8-6. As for Burns, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Polk County will stay at home for another game and welcome Chase at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Chase comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last ten games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Burns, they will be playing at home against Bessemer City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bessemer City will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
