Baseball Recap: Allen Has No Trouble Against Hartshorne

Allen made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hartshorne, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mustangs blew past the Miners 9-1 on Monday. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 10-4 victory the Miners walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Cruz Garrett and Alex Hill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Garrett pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Hill struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Garrett has become a key player for Allen: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise. At bat, Garrett scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Hill scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave Hill a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mason Carter was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Allen is undefeated when Carter posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Bodee Garrett, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Allen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hartshorne only posted a batting average of .100.

Allen pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Hartshorne, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

Coming up, Allen will welcome Wilburton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hartshorne, they will square off against Kiowa at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
