The Oxford Pirates lost against the Auburn Rockets back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Oxford took a 55-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Auburn. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Oxford has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Oxford lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brady Marqoupis. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Connor Fantasia, who scored nine points.
This is the second loss in a row for Oxford and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Auburn, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-6.
Oxford will be playing in front of their home fans against Quaboag Regional at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Quaboag Regional is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Auburn, they will head out on the road to square off against Tantasqua Regional at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Tantasqua Regional presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Auburn in Massachusetts (Tantasqua Regional is ranked 95th, while Auburn is ranked 232nd).
