Baseball Recap: Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Takes a Loss

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove dropped their record down to 6-5 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian Flying Dutchmen, falling 12-4. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Flying Dutchmen earlier this season, when they won 9-1.

As for Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. 12 seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian's part, Josh Groen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Groen was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Levi Van Essen looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Trevin Prins was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Caden Sas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove will host Murray County Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rebels will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian, they will challenge Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
