The Garden City Cougars lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Thursday was a bit more commanding. They were beaten by Romulus 78-10. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Garden City has scored all season.
Romulus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karma Jones-Johnson, who dropped a triple-double on ten points, 11 assists, and ten steals. Jones-Johnson hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Samaira Searcy, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Garden City are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.7 points per game. As for Romulus, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Garden City will look to defend their home court on Friday against Thurston at 7:00 p.m. As for Romulus, they will head out on the road to square off against Melvindale at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Melvindale: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Romulus has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
