Basketball Recap: Marian Picks Up 12th Consecutive Victory

Marian entered their tilt with John Paul II on Saturday with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. Everything went their way against the John Paul II Cardinals as they made off with an 81-55 victory. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Cardinals are ranked 414th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Marian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryan Bernardez, who posted 19 points and eight rebounds. Those 19 points gave Bernardez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ehud Tesfaye, who had 14 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Marian's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for John Paul II, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season.

Marian and Lutheran South Academy will round out the year against one another at at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for John Paul II, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on DasCHE at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
