Dutch Fork is a perfect 8-0 against Irmo since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Sunday. The Dutch Fork Silver Foxes will be playing at home against the Irmo Yellow Jackets at 1:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Dutch Fork had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Lakewood on Saturday. Dutch Fork put the hurt on Lakewood with a sharp 11-1 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Silver Foxes have posted since March 18, 2024.
Dutch Fork let Ethan Offing and C Morden run wild. Offing went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple, while Morden scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ryan Salters, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Irmo had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with an 11-2 win. That's two games straight that the Yellow Jackets have won by exactly nine runs.
Kyler Baker made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Jayllen Fray was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Hunter Parsons was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Irmo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Irmo's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Dutch Fork, their win bumped their record up to 2-0-1.
Sunday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dutch Fork has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .505. However, it's not like Irmo struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dutch Fork was able to grind out a solid victory over Irmo when the teams last played back in March of 2022, winning 7-4. Does Dutch Fork have another victory up their sleeve, or will Irmo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
