The Lincoln Southeast Knights scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They walked away with a 78-70 victory over Pius X. The win was familiar territory for Lincoln Southeast who now have five in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln Southeast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jake Hilkemann, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hilkemann scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Mike Ngoyi, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 1 assists.
Several Thunderbolts players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael Haith, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Treyson Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Lincoln Southeast has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Pius X, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Lincoln Southeast and Lincoln Southwest will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lincoln Southwest knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Lincoln Southeast likes a good challenge. Pius X is on the road again on Friday and play against North Platte at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. North Platte will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Pius X is ranked 69th).
